The messaging system is message-based and only requires picking up your phone and dialing 1-888-615-5216 then listening and responding to a greeting that walks you through the available extension numbers. You will be coached as to what information is required in your message and the available message time is limited to two minutes. That should be sufficient time for you to provide call-back information. The system is not intended for lengthy messages and certainly not for abusive messages. You must begin your message with your name, call-back phone number, and address. Your name and address must be on the Dayton Valley Golf Community members’ list (Homeowners’ list) since this a member’s only system. This is not an emergency number. Emergencies such as crimes in progress or a fire should be reported by dialing 911. A phone number is also provided in the opening greeting for non-emergency calls to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department.

The Messaging System phone number and available extensions to the Board, Committees and Management Company will always be in a left-column block on page 2 of the monthly Dayton Valley Community Association Newsletter.

Safety and Security Committee

The Safety and Security Committee was established to review and recommend a variety of issues concerning Homeowners in our community. These issues are not just those of a few, but of all the residents of the beautiful area in which we live.  Many of us moved to the community to enjoy the peace, serenity and at times solitude that we can all enjoy-even while living in a populated area. The quiet and peace we all seek is the norm at Dayton Valley Community.

This is our community, all should be aware of that which is out of the ordinary, or that which raises concern. We all should be congizant of our surroundings, noting anything suspicious or individual(s) who are not familiar in the neighborhood. Most are often here on regular business or visitors of a resident.

Again, this is your community.  We should all be involved in retaining the secure and peaceful environment in which we live.  Anyone wishing to participate in the committee, please feel free to join and participate.  Your input and participation will assist the committee in developing programs and procedures, which address Homeowner's concerns.

Swallows, Protected Birds!

Swallows are small birds with dark glossy blue backs, red throats, pale under parts and long distinctive tail streamers.

These birds are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which makes it a crime to “pursue, hunt, take, capture, kill, possess, sell, purchase (or ship)… any migratory bird, included in the terms of this convention”.

According to materials provided by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, free permits to remove swallow nests can be obtained from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  These permits are difficult to obtain, but removal of a swallow nest without a permit is misdemeanor and can result in both fines and jail time.

To receive more information about swallows and the laws protecting them, contact Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care at (530) 577-2273, or visit their website at www.ltwc.org.  To learn about applying for a nest removal permit, visit www.fws.gov/pacific/mbsp.

Easement for Golf Balls

In recent months, we have had many inquiries as to who is responsible for repairs of damage to homes by errant golf balls, the golfer, the golf course or the homeowner.

In short, the homeowner is responsible.

The CC&R's are very clear about this. In paragraph 8.03 Easement for Golf Balls the last sentence states: “The acquisition of a lot within the Properties acknowledges that the Owners are assuming the risk for any damages occurring by virtue of an errant golf ball.” It is hoped that any golfer causing damage to property by virtue of an errant golf ball would own up to it and notify the homeowner and offer to pay for damages. This is not mandatory however as the golfer and the golf course are protected by the DVCA CC&Rs.
